Meet the Team – Emma and Paul

We are celebrating our 10-year anniversary and took time to talk to our Operations Manager, Emma Hill and Senior Underwriter, Paul Raymen. They have both been with us from the start of our journey, so we asked them what they have learned along the way and their expectations for the future.

Why Trilogy?

Paul: I have always specialised in property and commercial underwriting and have known Chris Blackwell, our Managing Director, for over 20 years. When he approached me to join Trilogy it sounded like a wonderful opportunity to be part of an exciting start up where we could write, or in my case underwrite our own story.

Emma: Rather like Paul, I was drawn to Trilogy by the rare opportunity to be part of building a business from the ground up. From day one we have had a very tight team and are grateful to our loyal brokers who trusted us to handle their risks. At Trilogy I have never felt like a number, I have felt part of a group of people working together towards a common goal. Of course, we have faced bumps in the road along the way and that has helped to us grow and learn how to resolve challenges.

What makes Trilogy different?

Emma: We want everything to be as smooth, efficient and effective as possible for our clients. We believe it is important to think first and then execute on our plans. Our aim is to be well organised and understand every facet of our clients’ businesses. They need us to join up every aspect from operations to underwriting and claims. It is easy to say you offer a great service, but delivering this requires tangible client benefits. For example, we set benchmark targets to respond to an enquiry within 24 hours and issue documents within 10 days of binding a policy.

Paul: It’s all in the name, Trilogy. We base what we do on the three pillars of our business – the insured, the broker and the underwriter. By connecting and integrating these three stakeholders we strive to provide a seamless service. In practice, this means that a broker can pick up the phone, speak to an underwriter and know that they are empowered to make decisions. Also, it’s so much more than putting a client on cover. I believe that the acid test of any policy is when a claim occurs. We stay heavily involved, we don’t let go, it’s a crucial part of the policy lifecycle.

What next for Trilogy?

Emma: We feel confident but not complacent about the future. At the front of our minds is what Chris Blackwell said in a recent post – we are grateful for the support we have received from our brokers and carriers. We never forget that trust in us and it is our job to pay it forward in the years to come. It’s an exciting time for us, we are ready to turn the page and write the next chapter.

Paul: Emma is spot on. There are strong market conditions that present us with a great opportunity to take the business forward. However, we are mindful that our growth must be created in a sustainable manner.  We need to constantly improve wherever we can. New products are in the pipeline, and we want to bring in new blood, others who want to work in the Trilogy way. What does that mean? They will be personable and welcome the opportunity to be decision makers in a team with tight lines of communication.
